Here’s How It Went:

Highlights from the 2003
Philadelphia Pherret Phestival!

Well, the first Philadelphia Pherret Phestival is just a memory, but as far as most people who attended are concerned, it was a huge success. We’ve received at least a dozen calls and emails from attendees and vendors, and all of them have been extremely positive.

Here are just a few pictures of some of the more memorable moments from the show:

The show hall was spectacular; maybe the nicest hall we’ve ever seen for a ferret show. And the staff and crew who ran the hall and made sure everything was handled properly were terrific.

Diane spent as much time as she could talking to vendors, exhibitors and attendees, to make sure they were having a good time, and that everything was going according to plan.

Once the judging got underway, it went along smoothly, thanks to the efforts of the judges and stewards who volunteered their time.

Even Diane took her turn at the judging table. Here she’s judging a big boy at the Sable 1 ring, with Sue Devenney stewarding for her.

Many of the exhibitors were first timers. For them, it was especially important for the judges to explain any deductions, to help teach them what to do to improve for next time. Here, Jeff Beitzel spends a few moments explaining his scoring.

The raffles are key to earning money to support the rescue. Here, Sue pitches in selling raffle tickets to some of the attendees.

One ferret is never enough, as exhibitor and rescue volunteer Danielle Selko (center) proves.

Probably everyone’s favorite part of any ferret show is the fun games. Here, a few of the younger crowd bring their furry friends to take part in the basket escape.

This young lady’s ferret is just a second or two away from winning the first round of the basket escape.

Then it’s time for the paper bag escape. When Jeff says go, you drop your ferret into the bag. The first one to escape is the winner. Ready... set... go!

Hey, wait a minute. Isn’t that the same girl whose ferret won the basket escape? I think we have a ringer here!

There’s nothing like a good car race. And in this one, the ferret not only gets to choose its car, it gets to keep it as well. And the winner gets a prize, too.

Okay, the dress up contest is cute and all, but tell the truth: Is there any doubt in your mind about what this little ferret is planning to do to Julie Selko the next time she falls asleep?

The winners of the dress up contest... or as we like to call them... the people most willing to abuse their ferrets! Fortunately, these two didn’t seem to mind.

This little boy seems happy with his new snuggle sack.
